This pilot programme utilised the IRIS Connect video-based professional learning platform, to trial support for the reintroduction of maths at Grade 10.

I managed the project under contract to the British Council (Newton Fund),  working with a hand-picked UK team. Key project partners/stakeholders were IRIS Connect, the Department for Basic Education, South Africa, and staff and teachers from the Ekurhuleni District near Johannesburg.

The pilot trialled a co-mentoring (blended coaching) teacher training method working with township schools in the Ekurhuleni South District identified as experiencing significant challenges in maths performance and participation rates. 

 

The project was challenging at times but found significant improvements in teaching practice and a full evaluation and monitoring report was provided to the British Council and the South African government.
